We left Hampton, Virginia (the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel) at 9:40 am on Monday July 10, 2000.  105 hours and 31 minutes later we crossed the finish line at the Spit Buoy outside the Town Cut channel that leads to St Georges Harbor.  We finished first in our class, which made all of us fell pretty good.  The first two days of the trip over were quite rough – heavy seas and winds.  To go anywhere on the boat seemed to involve climbing up hill.    We had some sail damage, which we were able to get fixed in Bermuda.

Our stay in Bermuda was great.

We left St Georges at approx 9:30 Sunday July 9, 2000.  We headed for Ocracoke, NC instead of Hampton, VA to avoid the long trip (bridges and locks) down the ICW.  Unfortunately, we ran into the south end of a cold eddy and could not get out of it.  We had 4 knot currents on the bow for 24 hours.  We entered the inlet at about 7:30 am Saturday July 15, 200 but lost about an hour when we went aground on an unmarked shoal that had moved out into the channel.  After a stop for fuel, ice cream and a pepsi in Ocracoke, we headed for Columbia.  We arrived at 1:30 am Sunday morning.
